Ngiyaluncoma ucwaningo olwenziwa nguC.T. Binns encwadini yakhe ethi ‘The Last Zulu King: The Life and Death of Cetshwayo (1963), lapho elubeka khona usizi nokuhlukumezeka kwakhe ngaphansi koMbuso wamaNgisi owawuphethwe nguSomtsewu kaSonzica.  Miningi neminye imibhalo ebhalwe ngabanye ababhali, njengencwadi kaJames Stuart, (James Stuart Archives) nayo evezayo lapha nalaphaya ngempilo nomlando weNkosi uCetshwayo kodwa ngizogxila encwadini kaBinns.

Ukube iNgonyama uShaka, ngenkathi sekuphuma umphefumulo wayo, yawutshela ukuthi awuyongena kuCetshwayo, mhlampeni kungabe uCetshwayo noZulu akahluphekanga kanjeya, ngoba lowo mphefumulo wawuyongezela amandla ayenawo uCetshwayo nesizwe sikaZulu, mhlampeni uZulu anganqotshwa ngamaNgisi. UZulu wayeyoqhubeka abe yisizwe esizimele, esinayo yonke into esiyifunayo. Ngifikelwa umcabango wokuthi, isiqalekiso seNgonyama uShaka asisho ngenkathi ebulawa ngabesende lakwabo, saba nomthelela ekuhlulweni nasekupheleni koMbuso kaZulu, lapho athi khona ‘ngeke nilibuse kodwa liyobuswa zinkonjane zona ezindizela phezulu’, esho abelungu. Ukunqoba kukaZulu empini yaseSandlwana, okunokuba kunike uZulu amandla, kwaholela ekunqobeni kwamaNgisi empini yasOndini, lapho okwaze kwaqhamuka khona isisho esithi ‘uNdi olumahlikihliki’, ngendlela uNdi olwaphundleka ngayo.

Isibindi seNgonyama uCetshwayo siyamangalisa. UZulu walwa izimpi eziningi ezindaweni ezahlukene, elwa ephethe isihlangu nomkhonto kuphela kanti amaNgisi wona ayehlome ngezibhamu. USomtsewu kaSonzica nxa echaza ubunjalo beNkosi uCetshwayo uthi ‘uCetshwayo indoda eqotho, enokwethembeka, enesithunzi, ehloniphekile, okuthi noma uxoxa nayo uzwe ukucwecweka kwamazwi aphuma kuye ukuthi yiNkosi yangempela. Ayikho iNkosi esengike ngahlangana nayo efana noCetshwayo’. Uthi uSonzica uCetshwayo wayengakhohlwa ubuhlakani bukaShaka. Yonke into ayeyenza yayisukela kuShaka. Wayemkhonze kakhulu.

La mazwi kaSonzica asikhombisa ukuthi umgomo omkhulu weNkosi uCetshwayo kwakuwukufeza iphupho leNgonyama uShaka, wayefuna ukwakha umbuso kaZulu njengoba kwakufuna uShaka, wayengafuni ukwenza nelincane iphutha lokuphambuka endleleni yakhe. Asivume ukuthi kwakuyiphupho likaCetshwayo, elingafezekanga ngenxa yamaNgisi. Kwakuyiphupho lezinyanya zikaZulu okwakufanele iNkosi uCetshwayo ilifeze. Leli phupho laphunza ngenxa yezifiso ezimbi ezinukayo zabacindezeli.

Ubuqotho nesibindi sakhe usikhombise ngenkathi, kwezinye zezigameko, ethi ‘Angikaze ngidayise ngezwe lawokhokho emaBhunwini. Bazama ukunginika iphepha nepeni ukuthi ngisayine, ngathatha konke lokho ngakulahla phansi. Uma bethi ngasayina, bayaphupha. Ngamanga lawo’. Nangempela uMntwana uDabulamanzi wayifakazela iNkosi ukuthi amaBhunu ayenamanga.

UCetshwayo wazithola ehlaselwa nxa zonke. Ngenye imini waphendula uSonzica ngesankahlu esibi, bebanga ukuthi uMgoza, induna kaSonzica, iphuma ingena, igcaluza ebaleni lesigodlo seNgonyama. Wathi uyangenelela uSonzica, elekelela uMgoza, wathi uCetshwayo: ‘Thula mlungu, angikhulumi nawe’. Kuthiwa la mazwi aphuma ngokubhavumula okukhulu kabi, okungangoba uSonzica wathula nya.

Ngenkathi esekudingisweni laphaya eKapa, esazowela aye phesheya e-England, ekhuluma ngobuqili nobuphixiphixi bukaJohn Dunn, iNkosi uCetshwayo ibeka kanje: ‘Ngenye imini ngihleli emzini wami, sixoxa nalabo engangihleli nabo, ngezwa sengitshelwa izinhloli zami ukuthi kukhona umlungu la emnyango ocela ukukhuluma nami. Uma ngithi ngiyabheka ngempela wumlungu. Wangeniswa endlini. Lo mlungu wayegqoke amanikiniki ubona ukuthi yisihlupheki lesi, egodola, eqhaqhazela.

Ngamtshela ukuthi akasondele emlilweni ukuze afudumale. Walubika udaba lwakhe, ngamthanda ngaze ngamthatha njengomfowethu, ngamenza enye yezinduna zami, ngamnika izintombi kanye nezwe ngithi ngimenza umuntu. Namhlanje uDunn usenesibindi sokungikhonkotha, angidle izithende. Yini yona uDunn, eyinja nje!’.

Khona futhi esalindile eKapa, uMnumzane uHercules Robinson, owayengumbusi waseKapa, watshela iNgonyama uCetshwayo ukuthi nxa esebuya e-England useyokhululeka ahlale kahle, ngaphandle kokuthi ngeke abuyele kwaZulu. Wamphendula ngokushesha uCetshwayo wathi: ‘NgiyiNgonyama yakwaZulu. Yizwe lami lelo. Akusho ukuthi ngoba nakhu ngahlaselwa amaNgisi angehlula angiseyiyo iNgonyama. Ngizolinda nje kuze kuba iNdlovukazi yamaNgisi ingibuyisela esikhundleni sami.’ (pg 187).

UCetshwayo wakhashwa nguSonzica noDunn ukuya e-England. UDunn wayengutolika kaCetshwayo. ULord Kimberley usebuza uCetshwayo ukuthi iyiphi ingqikithi yento ozofike uyisho eNdlovukazini. Uyaphendula uCetshwayo uthi: ‘Ngifisa ukwazi eNdlovukazini ukuthi yini mina nezwe lakwaZulu esikwenzile embusweni wamaNgisi ngize ngihlushwe kanje’, ngoba asikaze sibahlasele abelungu. Thina sasizivikela ekuchukuluzweni ngabelungu.’

Nabu-ke ubuhlungu okwaziwa yiNkosi uCetshwayo. Ukwehliswa kwesithunzi sakhe, ukwehliswa kwesithunzi sezwe lakwaZulu nokwehliswa kwesithunzi sabantu bakwaZulu, ukwehla kwamandla oBukhosi, ukushabalala kwephupho lakhe lokwakha umbuso omkhulu kunayo yonke ekhona e-Afrika, kwaba ubuhlungu obujulile kuCetshwayo. Lobo buhlungu, kwabanye bethu busezwakala nanamhlanje.
